We attempt to detect an increase of late pacemaker-risk due to AV-block in a large countrywide cohort ablated for AVNRT.
The Swedish catheter ablation register contains available data on all patients in the country ablated for AVNRT between 2004-2014 (n=6977). The Swedish ICD and Pacemaker register, includes all pacemaker patients in Sweden. By matching the two registers we identified 228 (3.27%) patients ablated for AVNRT who received pacemaker implantation 2004-2014. Annual incidence of pacemaker implantation was calculated from mean follow-up time. Information of indication for pacemaker implantation were extracted from medical records.
Mean follow-up time was 2034 days. 35 AVNRT patients received pacemaker 0-30 days after ablation, of these 25 (0.26%) due to acute AV-block. A total of 104 patients received pacemaker implantation later than 30 days after AVNRT ablation, 39 of these due to AV-block confirmed by the records (0.57%).

The risk of AV-block and pacemaker implantation is 2-3 times higher late after ablation for AVNRT when compared to the background population.
